The Airspace Data Repository (ADR) aims at collecting, maintaining and sharing European airspace data with its users for the benefit of the ATM network. In order to obtain high quality information and to eventually improve ATM Performance, a real‐time and automated data exchange with various systems is needed. LARA provides essential data for the benefit of ADR and its users by supplying the complete picture of the airspace planning and airspace status situation within different national clusters.
LARA’s contribution to ADR ‐ The following will provide an overview on how the exchange of different data items between LARA and ADR will benefit the ATM Network – and how LARA will constitute one of the building blocks of the future ADR.
- Environmental Data ‐ LARA requires up‐to‐date and validated static airspace data for operation. Temporary changes introduced by NOTAM need to be reflected and considered. In order to enable seamless interoperability between LARA and other systems it is required to operate on the same data baseline. ADR can meet above mentioned requirements by providing complete, consistent and validated environmental data to LARA and other systems and thereby promoting safety, efficiency and interoperability.
- ATFCM Data ‐ Currently, military users reserve airspace according to availability and suitability for mission effectiveness. Information about civil traffic demand and areas of potential network congestion are not available and not considered. If ADR provides Air Traffic Flow and Capacity Management (ATFCM) Data to LARA, military airspace users and airspace managers can include the predicted traffic situation in their decision on airspace usage ‐ they could opt for airspaces having the least impact on traffic while fully achieving their mission objectives.
- Event Data ‐ LARA provides an Event Planner, which allows users to schedule long‐term events (Military Exercises, Summits, etc). This data is made available to all connected clients and allows for an early deconfliction. LARA’s Event Data can be forwarded to ADR feeding the CFMU Network Operations Portal (NOP) for further network wide promulgation of this data for an increased awareness beyond the boundaries of LARA.
- National Planning Data ‐ LARA is designed for online, real‐time exchange of airspace reservation data throughout the whole airspace management process ‐ from the initial request to the actual airspace activation. A LARA system will have the complete and up‐to‐ date picture of the respective airspace planning situation. This information can be continuously sent to ADR for use and distribution to other interested parties. Providing airspace users access to a coherent picture on airspace usage and the availability of routes will optimize flight planning and unlock potential for additional efficiency gains.
- Airspace (De‐) Activations ‐ LARA offers functionality to manage the tactical, real‐time phase of the airspace management process. The system enables real‐time activations and de‐ activations of areas according to the actual usage of airspace. This data will be passed on to ADR enabling a further synchronization of demand and capacity beyond the planning phase.
