Experimental Deployments
Belgium, the Netherlands and Maastricht UAC continued their trials using LARA V1 and started testing LARA between two clusters. Implementation is foreseen to start in 2011.
The UK performed a large scale one month trial involving various actors ranging from Royal Air Force and Navy Units to the AMC and London Centre Supervisors. According to the current planning, the UK will start with the implementation of LARA in 2011, extending it further in 2012+.
Bulgaria started an operational trial using V1 end of 2010. The initial feedback is positive and a detailed report is being assembled.
A LARA Workshop with stakeholders and Graffica was held January 2011 at EUROCONTROL HQ. The aim was to identify any remaining obstacles for successful implementation of LARA in 2011. The two-day meeting was very productive and once again demonstrated the excellent spirit across the LARA community.
The MILOs are continuing their use of LARA, providing useful feedback on the recent versions.
Software Development
The LARA V2 Software will be released March 28th 2011. The LARA Team received very valuable operational and technical feedback from the Experimental Deployments in the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands using the LARA V1 software. This feedback had a direct influence on the development of V2. In addition, new functionality has been added like the Event Planner, an Import Tool, more advanced database management and many other improvements over the V1 Version. Included in V2 are as well software developments from the LARA Team, like the PRISMIL Interface and the LARA GIS (Geographic Information System) interface that allows spatial data processing, like e.g. automated airspace relationships creation and WMS (Web Map Server) services.
Other Activities
The FFPG Meeting took place January 2011 in EUROOCONTROL HQ and the LARA Team was invited by the European Commission to brief and demonstrate LARA to the FAB Representatives. The European Commission has already supported LARA during the development and continues to promote LARA as a means of compliance with the SES Regulation Framework.
The FABEC Live Trial will take place in 2011 and LARA has been selected as the primary tool to support the FABEC ASM/ATFCM Function. The newly developed LARA Import Functionality will be used to import airspace management data from all FABEC Countries into LARA during the Trial. MUAC is actively supporting this activity in developing a pre-processor enabling LARA to import a wide variety of data formats.
FABCE has expressed their interest in LARA. The coordination regarding this request is currently ongoing.
Romania has requested to use LARA, thereby making LARA the single airspace management support system for the complete Danube FAB.
