LARA Deployment

Belgium and Maastricht UAC have implemented LARA into their operational environment. The legacy AMP2 tool has been taken offline and LARA is being used in its place. In the future LARA will communicate the real-time airspace status to the Maastricht ATC System for display on the controller working positions.

The MILO’s LARA Server is going to be connected via PENS to the MUAC/Belgian LARA Server to interface in real time directly with the data, and to use it for collaboration and optimisation purposes. The Netherlands are continuing their implementation of LARA. It has been agreed to use the data of LARA and their mission management tool to feed EUROCONTROL’s PRISMIL. The LARA Team has provided an in-depth operator training to key-personnel of RNLAF to enable them to train their own staff.

The UK are using LARA operationally since early 2012. The initial focus is the AMC and the Military Airspace Booking Coordination Centre (MABCC). The next steps will include rolling out LARA on a wide scale to the military users. The technical implementation plans are currently being assessed with the support of the LARA Team. A prototype of a “LARA Light” version has been demonstrated to the Royal Air Force, which is offering a subset of LARA Functionality to end users.

Bulgaria is in the process of preparing the LARA Implementation in terms of legal agreements, procuring the required hardware and network infrastructure.

Romania has just started using LARA V2.1 in their effort to continue their operational assessment.

FABCE is using LARA within the context of their ATFCM/ASM live trial. The AMCs of FABCE countries are connected to a central FABCE LARA Server providing the required data. The LARA Team has provided training to AMC Users during a training session in Bratislava in March of this year.

LATVIA has started preparations for the implementation of LARA.

Software Development

LARA V2.1 has been delivered earlier this year and most users have implemented this version. The new release has addressed a number of performance improvements and minor functionality updates.

The release plan for LARA V2.2 is currently being discussed incorporating the outcome of the LARA Workshop held in December 2011. It will be presented at the upcoming LARA User Group. Next to a number of HMI Improvements, possible enhancements are filtering options inter- and intra-cluster, AUP Sharing and Remote Monitoring Functionality.

Within SESAR, LARA will be used to validate aspects of the Advanced Flexible Use of Airspace Concept. These include developments to utilise the data standard AIXM5.1 and B2B Services for automatic sharing and updating of static data and AUPs/UUPs. Within this framework it is considered to implement in LARA functionality to draft and produce the full AUP/UUP including CDR availability, which are then sharable with the Network Manager and other clusters.

Other Activities

LARA was used during an ICAO Civil-Military Workshop in the ICAO Regional Office in Bangkok in February 2012.

The LARA Team has participated in the ADR Functional Hazard Assessment as a future user of ADR.

The LARA Team has been working on LARA Database maintenance and documentation tools to support database management for Housekeepers and Administrators. These will be presented at the upcoming User Group Meeting held in Brussels on June 5th 2012.
