LARA Team Update
Monica and David have joined us mid 2024 to strengthen the Team after Eric retired, and to manage the higher workload resulting from the growing number of LARA users and more sophisticated implementations in many countries, integrating LARA into the tactical phase of Airspace Management and interfacing to ATC systems.
Francois’ retirement is now scheduled for the end of February 2026. His tasks are being taken over by the remaining team members. The support will continue to be provided as usual, shared between the Graffica and EUROCONTROL Teams.
LARA, CIMACT and PRISMIL will now be managed jointly within our Team with the aim to harmonize the development, strengthen interoperability and exploit synergies. While we continue to share the work on the different systems across all team members, each of us will act as focal point for a certain area: Pavlin for LARA, Jan for CIMACT, Alvaro for PRISMIL, David for Software Design and Architecture and Monica for Agreements and Contracts. Please continue to address any enquiry, question or request to lara@eurocontrol.int.

LARA Training
Starting this year, the LARA Team is offering LARA Training Sessions in the EUROCONTROL Aviation Learning Centre in Luxembourg. The first set of courses were held successfully earlier this year, and the feedback both from the participants and the Team are very positive, a very productive and efficient way to organize LARA training while sharing experiences and best practices among the participants from the different countries. LARA in Australia
Work on the implementation of LARA in Australia has started in 2025. Initial deployment to support airspace management processes is expected to commence in 2026.
LARA V5 and the SWIM Implementation
LARA V5, available since April this year, is being deployed across the countries using the system. This will ensure the timely implementation of the SWIM services in accordance with CP1. A second patch of LARA V5.0, scheduled for release in August, will ensure full interoperability with the European Aviation Common PKI (EACP) service.
Portugal has been the first country to implement and use LARA V5 operationally.
Important Announcements
Please block the date: the next LARA User Group will take place on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, combined with the LARA Steering Group, held at NATS Swanwick ACC in the United Kingdom. We would like to thank our colleagues from the UK for the invitation and are looking forward to meet you there. More information and a formal invitation will be sent out very soon.
Test activities between LARA and CAT, the Polish ASM system, are being carrying out. Initial results show that some small adaptations to both systems are required to proceed with operational connections. We will keep you informed on the latest updates via emails.
We wish you a good summer holiday and we hope to see you at the User Group/Steering Group meeting!
